Description

Typically used as a speciality malt, Munich Type 1 can also be used up to 100% of the grain bill depending on the recipe. This lightly kilned grain is typically used to enhance the aroma and mouthfeel, especially in darker style beers. The flavours usually added by Munich is a more intense malty and biscuit-like taste. As it is the lighter version, you can use more of this grain in the grain bill. Beers such as Marzen, Dark Lager, Amber, and Stout are well suited to the qualities this grain provides. Between 5 – 30% of the grain bill is the general recommendation. Pale Ale and IPA’s can also feature Munich, but at a lower percentage.
